Where the grassroots go to get things done...

Grassroots for AmericaSM is a resource for progressive grassroots organizations across the country to help them:
  • Energize their ideas and bring them to life
  • Connect with like-minded teams across the country
  • Mobilize bodies of voters for active citizen engagement
  • Publicize their projects utilizing a professional PR and Media team.
Grassroots for AmericaSM is building a suite of tool kits and today provides national outreach to help progressive volunteer organizations swiftly grow roots in their backyards.

Most importantly, Grassroots for AmericaSM is a vehicle to help grassroots organizations stay together and continue the fight to take back our country!

WHAT WE WILL DO

Grassroots for AmericaSM grew out of the volunteer support base of the Howard Dean Presidential campaign and aims to provide a launching pad for people who want to take substantive action to change politics in America. Therefore, we will:
  • Identify promising community-based mobilization projects
  • Assist with the strategic development of these ideas as appropriate
  • Promote these projects across the growing grassroots network
  • Communicate project goals and how they can be deployed in a local community
  • Provide infrastructure and support services necessary to accomplish the goals
  • Publicize the people who originated the ideas and the volunteers who bring the idea to life in each community

TRACK RECORD OF SUCCESS

The founders of Grassroots for AmericaSM facilitated a number of high profile national volunteer mobilization, GOTV and publicity projects for the Howard Dean grassroots community during the Democratic Primaries. Here are a few examples:
  • National Stand Up for Dean: A night of solidarity and volunteerism that connected more than 125 independent Dean-grassroots organizations in 24 states to embolden the support base and prove to the mass media that Howard Dean’s support was holding strong after the Iowa loss. The event achieved media coverage in every market where it was held and included an interactive conference call with Governor Dean.
  • Burn4Dean: Produced a 15 minute video, promoted the project to achieve thousands of individual donations necessary to fund the project which achieved: the delivery of 3,000 VHS tapes in Milwaukee, the burning of about 500 DVDs and VCDs by over 100 individuals, and generating media coverage of video distribution to undecided Wisconsin voters.
  • Partnership Project for Unity Statement: Grassroots for AmericaSM is a proud co-signatory of this landmark effort by a group of California Dean supporters to develop a set of common values around which Dean-inspired organizations can rally and use as guiding light for advancing the principles of the Howard Dean campaign. We were also proud to be invited to manage the national, regional and local media relations effort around this project.

HOW IT WORKS

  • A local grassroots organization says, “We have an idea, and we need help making it happen”. Some of these ideas are national in scope, some are regional or local.
  • National concepts: We promote the idea across the national network of progressive grassroots organizations, and if the idea is accepted by a enough groups to achieve the goals, then we go to work to help make it happen.
  • Regional and local concepts: Many grassroots organizations want to focus on projects in their own communities, but need guidance on organizational development, volunteer mobilization, publicity, etc.
